Aberdeen Spring Show and Sale

With pedigree bulls selling to a top price of 6000gns, trade was brisk at Aberdeen & Northern Marts’ multibreed show and sale today at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie.

Following his spring show record price in 2006, John Wilson of Kinclune, Glenkindie, again led the way in the sale ring with his first prize-winning Charolais Kinclune Ace selling for the top price of 6000gns to W and N Milne, Milton of Edinglassie, Strathdon.

A full brother of last year’s record breaking animal, this year’s sale leader was a home-bred June 2005-born son of the 14000gns Caylers Solomon.Overall champion for the Charolais breed was the March 2005-born Harestone Accord by Tyrol from N R Barclay, Harestone Farm, Crathes, Banchory which was bought by M C Thomson and Sons, Burnside of Tynet, Buckie for 2,400gns.

The reserve champion, meanwhile, achieved 4000gns and it was an April 2005-born son of Thrunton Socrates named Blelack Athos from Neil Massie, Blelack, Aboyne.

In the Limousin section, a top call of 3500gns was given for Buchaam Angus, a, April 2005-born son of Walkers Travada from Messrs Ogg, Buchaam Farm, Strathdon.

The successful outing for Limousin’s continued when the breed’s champion went on to be named overall champion for 2007 and sold for 3000gns.

Exhibited by Michael Massie, Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt, the overall champion was the March 2005-born Elrick Alexander by Croftlimousin Spencer and was purchased by judge Liam Muir on behalf of Kenneth Anderson, North House, Voe, Shetland.

A top price of 4000gns was achieved for the Lims with Fodderletter Ajax, a February 2005-born son of Shott from W. Robertson, Fodderletter Farm, Tomintoul, selling to W M and C Alexander, Wick.

Selling for 3000gns was the reserve champion Limousin, this time a June 2005-born son of Milbrook R2K named Ballyrickard Alex. Exhibited by Lanark’s Norman Cruickshank, Cleghorn the reserve champion was bought by D Bartlet and Son, Mains of Fortrie, Auchnagatt.

Top price for the Simmental breed was 2800gns, which was paid by J and W Keiro, Netherton, Glenlivet for the February 2005-born Burghbridge Spencer by South Park Nutcracker from John McIrvine, Huntly.

The Simmental champion was the October 2005-born Popes Samson by Corrick Major from Messrs Bruce, Ellon.

He was bought by A L Lawson, Home Farm, Haughton, Alford for 2300gns. The reserve champion – the September 2005-born Whiteknowes Shandy by Islavale Marvel – was shown by W J Barclay, Cullen and fetched 2000gns to R and J Francis, Scotston, Insch.

In the Aberdeen Angus section, a top price of 2200gns was realised when W Laird & Co, Fraserburgh bought the April 2005-born son of Blelack Lord Hornblower named Auchincrieve Equalizer from Messrs C and E McCombie, Huntly.

The Angus champion was the 1500gns March 2005-born Tonley Andrew by Blelack Blackbeard from Neil Wattie, Mains of Tonley Alford.

He was purchased by J M Gilbert, Kintore. Neil also picked up the reserve championship with the March 2005-born Tonley Equidor by Blelack Blackbeard B471. It fetched 1400gns to Messrs Neish, Banchory.
