Allian herd sells to a top of 8800gns

Topping the major reduction sale of Skipton-based Andrew and Alison Holdgate’s Aliann Holstein herd was Aliann Bi Sonya, who sold for 8800gns to B McMiken for his Ernespie herd.

Sired by Boss Iron and out of Aliann Roy sonya, she goes back to the Ex90 Newroddige Slocum Sonya.

Next in the money was Skyhigh DRM Elegance, a February 2006 born daughter of Regancrest Elton Durham out of Budjon-JK Encore Elegance. She sold for 6500gsn to M and J Bristol’s Claremont herd. The Bristol‘s also took home the Ex92 Aliann champion Isis at 4200gns.

Bentham-based Robert and Elaine Butterfield took bids to 6200gns to secure Aliann Shottle Soulshine for their Ingleview herd. This Picston shuttle three year old with a PLI of £142 is out of the Wa-Del Convincer daughter Aliann Convincer Soulshine.

The main buyers were Robert and Diane Evans, Carmarthen who secured 16 high quality cattle from top ranked families, to replace TB losses in their noted Deri herd. The well travelled Kevin Thomas made the long drive up from Whitland, South Wales and purchased seven individuals for his Allstar herd, also tragically reduced by the ongoing TB disease.

Mr Thomas’ load included the stylish VG-87 Aliann Geno August, bred from the ever reliable DRA August EX-96 line. Four weeks calved she looked in superb form giving 46kg a day and was knocked down at 5200gns. Also on the Allstar lorry was the 4000gns Aliann September Kitty, a young dry cow descended from John Jordan’s noted import CRF Vic Birch Kitty EX-95.

There were 44 buyers amongst the large crowd that braved the weather and 25 head (22%) are off to Wales.
