Belgian Blues bid 4200gns

BELGIAN BLUE buyers were prepared to go to 4200gns to secure a heifer that has been unbeaten on the show circuit in Cumbria this summer, but owners R and A Tyson decided it was not enough.

This white Seduisant De Fooz heifer had continued her winning ways by taking the championship at this elite sale of females organised by the Border Belgian Blue Club at Carlisle, but she left the ring unsold.

Striking the best deal in the ring were Penrith breeders Fenton and Christine Brass, who sold Edenvalley Vixen (beef value 26) at 3800gns. She is another smart daughter of renowned sire Tamhorn Sumo and is out of a Ridge Dean dam. Buyer was Colne, Lancs, breeder J Pollard.

The Brass family also sold a Visconti de St Fontaine heifer at 2200gns to G Hogg, Harrogate.

Anita Padfield’s Piggots herd in Norfolk consigned the black-and-white served heifer Springfield Unella, who made the reserve champion and is in-calf to Danseur D’Embise. Buyer was R Barker, Carlisle, at 3600gns.

Henry Ridley, Hesket Newmarket, Cumbria, sold the black heifer Wood Hall Viola at 3200gns to Gavin Boocock, Driffield, east Yorks.

Averages: Two served heifers 2835; 16 maiden heifers 2205 and four cows 1788 (Harrison and Hetherington).
