English Winter Fair: Be aware of the risk when handling livestock

The safe handling of livestock during housing is set to be a key theme in an EBLEX-backed display at this year’s English Winter Fair.

Static demonstrations of the latest livestock handling equipment from the UK’s leading manufacturers will be on display in a dedicated demonstration area at the event thanks to a new initiative by the organiser, the Staffordshire & Birmingham Agricultural Society (SBAS).

The aim is to help increase awareness of the risks posed during routine handling of livestock, explains Richard Williams, SBAS chief executive. “Members of the committee believe it is a key area of concern and we are delighted that so many manufacturers have responded to the invitation to exhibit at this year’s show.

“Safe handling of stock has been highlighted in the EBLEX’s Better Returns Programme nationwide and we are proud to be continuing that theme at this year’s event,” says Mr Williams.

EBLEX staff will be on hand along with manufacturers to talk through issues with producers as many livestock are housed on farm for the winter months.
