HOLSTEIN BULL TRIO MAKES IT A 2400GNS HAT-TRICK

THREE BULLS notched up a top price of 2400gns at the Border and Lakeland Holstein Club”s show and sale at Carlisle, where 28 head averaged 1289.

They included two from the Annandale herd of Dumfriesshire breeder Willie Armour. Annandale Lord Lily, by Kellywell Fred Devon, was bought by J and H Somerville and Annandale Knockout – by Annandale Sharpo – joins Ayrshire-based farmers M and J Howat. Lord Lily is out of the 12,800kg Den Dogge Libelle and hails from the successful Walkup Valiant Lou Ella family that produced Rothrock Tradition Leadman. Knockout is out of an 11,468kg heifer from the Flora family by Istar Aero.

DAIRY CHAMP

The third 2400gns deal was struck when C Innes and Sons, Nairn, secured G McIlwraith and Co”s Stannock Rocky. This son of Rudolph is full sister to Stannock Rudolph Lou Ella, reserve champion at last year”s Dairy Scot event. The championship went to Tallent Gambler from Anthony Brough”s herd at Cockermouth, Cumbria.

He is by Convincer, tracing back to the Conant-Acres Gaye family. Buyer at 1450gns was Mr Sanderson of Cockermouth. Top-priced female and reserve champion was Grangecroft Mirage Connie 179. She realised 1250gns to J and J Graves, Armathwaite. Judge Robert Burrows of Stardale Holsteins found his female show champion in Cauldcoats Veltma 87, from Midlothian breeder Donald Laird (Harrison & Hetherington).
