Navac and Widewath Belgian Blues shine
BELGIAN BLUE cattle met a strong trade at Carlisle, with a top price of 4700gns, when the Navac herd held a production sale alongside a draft from the Widewath herd of Cumbria breeders Mark and Julia Bousfield.
A Widewath entry led the sale with the young black-and-white cow Ridge Dean Sherry 2nd. By Farmer and out of a Park Daimler cow, she was offered in-calf to Netherwood Umpire and had been successfully flushed five times producing 16 embryos. Buyer was Anita Padfield, Great Yarmouth.
The Bousfields also sold the 1999-bred bull Brookfield Rambo at 3000gns to R Carter, Dursley, Glos. Rambo is a son of Galopeur de Hayons and full brother to the 10,500gns Brookfield Mario.
Highest score for the Navac herd of Lancs-based Maguire Livestock Services was 2400gns, paid for Navac Veron. By a naturally born son of Amiral and out of an 18-year-old cow by Danseur, he was bought by W and A Atkinson, Preston, Lancs.
Averages Navac – three cows 1769 and seven heifers 1297. Widewath – three cows 2597; eight heifers 1706 (Harrison and Hetherington).
