Belgian Blue Society to change name
The British Belgian Blue Cattle Society is intending to change its name to the ‘British Blue Cattle Society’ in a bid to create its own identity and promote its cattle in the future as British Blues.
Society secretary John Fleming says that after 25 years, breeders have established a ‘British type’ of Blue, suited to the market demands of the meat trade, a trade with incredibly different objectives and attitudes from the continental trade in Belgium.
“We live in times where local sourcing of food is fast becoming a major issue in the UK. This is particularly important when it comes to branding a product for marketing purposes, so the name Belgian Blue does not sit comfortably in these changing times.”
