Belgian Blue’s set new breed record at Carlisle
Well after a rather long drive back from Carlisle – I bring good news from the Belgain Blue sale. I knew when I announced on here there was going to be a few gems from the Wilodge herd entered in the sale, that the sale would see a few history makers, but at that time predications were on a certain bull to top the day’s sale.
However, it was the Belgian bred cow Radieuse that caused a stir catching the eye of Northern Ireland Blue and Limouisn breeder Raymond Crawford. Bidding was electric and the dazed and confused look on Christine Williams’ face said it all – 30,000gns – she couldn’t beleive it!!
Neither could a few other faces round the ring, some of whom had seen the powerful cow knocked down to Wilodge in the same ring back in the autumn!!
Also going back home to Northern Irealnd with the Crawford Brothers was the reserve female champion, Wilodge Way To Go, an in calf heifer by Cubitus and out of Wilodge Pandora, she changed hands at 12,000gns.
Leading a rather steady entry of bulls was a single entry from Northern Ireland breeders J and A Sloan of Kilkeel, Co Down, when they sold Ballygrange Alex, a 22 month old son of Woodview Solo and out of a Banquier sired daughter for 12,000gns.
Alex is full brother to last seasons Royal Highland Show male champion and sold to Staffs breeders Danny and Jane Wyllie for their Tamhorn herd.
The reserve senior male champion, Astbury Alex, from society chairman Jim Barber, Congleton, Cheshire sold for 11,000gns. Sired by Sceptre De Bomal and out of a Baron daughter, he was jointly purchased by Messrs Wood and Hunter of Crieff, Perthshire and Dunmaglass Estate Partners of Inverness.
Also selling for 11,000gns was a Dafydd son (Dafydd dominated many of the male and female entries). Ballee Ace from Alan Cleland, Downpatrick, Co Down, is out of a Ridge Dean Mahogony sired cow and sold to D M G Milicahp and Partners, West Galmorgan.
Also reaching up to the five figure mark was a May 2005 born bull from Hereforshire breeder Graham Morgan, Almeley Arlequin, a son of Park U Panda and out of a homebred cow, sold for 10,000gns to D C Rees and Son, Brecon.
