Belted galloways and Highland sale a success
The Inaugural show and sales for the Belted Galloway and Highland Cattle breed societies at
The Belted Galloways opened proceedings and were all hotly contested from buyers travelling from the length and depth of the country. Top price hit the 2100gns mark for a red belted bull from J J N Adams “Poplar Incredible” an “Arnside Vagabond” son having taken second prize in the show and being secured by Jonathan Longhorn of Carperby,
P N Melland entered one animal for the event, an in calf heifer by Bolebec Dun Concorde, she won first and Overall Champion and went on to sell at 2000gns to P and F Rowland, Northwick, Cheshire.
Cows and calves enjoyed strong and keen support peaking at 1,900gns twice from J and P Farms for a heifer with heifer calf at foot and from Andrew Morland for a similar outfit both being taken by P and R Rowland.
Highland cattle recorded a strong entry with good support from around the country resulting in an almost 100% clearance with a top price of 1150gns for the first and champion Senior Heifer “Skye 3rd of Mottistone” from Michael Poland’s Fold
She was purchased on the telephone by Stephanie Nesse, Penshurst, Kent for eventual export to France. Local breeder Judy Gardner produced the First and Reserve Overall champion, a homebred maiden heifer “Wilemena of Eckington” she enjoyed firm competition levelling at 1100gns to K L. Rice,
The Mottistone Fold of Michael Poland entered an excellent string of cattle and enjoyed further success with a first prize Senior Heifer selling to A. Hewitt, Kidderminster,
