Berrichon sale hits 1,220gns high at Worcester

The Best of the Berrichon breeders sale peaked at 1,220gns at their ninth annual in-lamb sale at Worcester on Saturday (17 November).

The top-priced lot was a Swincombe shearling ewe from Malcolm and Kathy Yeo, Barnstaple, Devon. Now She’s a Good One is sired by Criffel Jackpot and sold carrying twins to Henallt Jack, the Royal Welsh Show’s interbreed continental champion. Buyer Tom Pritchard, Hallow, Worcester shire.

The Swincombe flock was to the fore again when selling another in-lamb shearling ewe, this time by Henallt Jack, for 1,000gns to Tim Stayt, Chipping Norton, Oxon, and a Criffel Jackpot sired shearing carrying twins to Henallt Jack for 860gns to M Jones, St Clears, Carmarthen.

Another shearling from the Yeos, Swincombe Nancy, sired again by Criffel Jackpot and carrying twins to Henallt Jack, sold at 860gns to volume buyer at the sale M Jones, St Clear, Carmarthen.

Second best price on the day was achieved by the shearling ewe Incledon Nightdale, from John, Jean and Lauren Yeo, Braunton, Devon. She was placed second at the Royal Three Counties Show and sold carry twins to Rakefoot Nugget. Buyer was Cameron Hillhouse, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire. Her half-sister sold carrying twins to Tom Stayt, Oxon for 780gns.

A consignment from the Woodston Manor Partnership, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, topped at 920gns for Woodston Nisa, a shearling ewe by a son of an imported German sire. She sold in-lamb with twins to Woodston Omar to M Jones, St. Clears, Carmarthen. Mr Jones also purchased Woodston Nakita, the daughter of Irish imported ram Deerpark Paddy, sold in-lamb to Sauchnie Maximus for 720gns.

The long trip from Stirling proved very successful for Robert Graham’s Strathallen flock, topping at 850gns for a shearling ewe by the imported French ram Samson. She sold carrying twins to the 2,000gns Rakefoot Milliondollar Man and was secured by RA Davenport, Sandbach, Cheshire.

Several more Strathallen consignments sold in excess of 500gns, up to 560gns for another Samson daughter, also in lamb to the Rakefoot ram. Buyer was C Gwynne, Brecon, Powys.
