Bluefaced Leicester females draws the crowds at Carlisle

Buyers gathered at the Bluefaced Leicester Female Show and Sale at Carlisle, which saw 140 registered females going under the hammer, with brisk trade resulting in lambs averaging £837.24.

 

Topping trade was a gimmer from the Midlock Flock of Messrs John Wight and Sons. In-lamb with twins, this female sold for 2400gns to D and V Hill, Great Asby, Cumbria.

 

 

The Midlock Flock also secured the second top price with an in-lamb gimmer due with triplets. She heads home with Ian Gregory, Buckston, Derbyshire for 2000gns. 

 

Next in line it was the turn of the W M Hutchinson and Sons, Kirby Stephen, Cumbria, with a gimmer selling for 1900gns to PJ Broughton, Whitby, Yorkshire.

 

The Midlock flock also secured 1900gns for a gimmer in-lamb with triplets. She heads home with Robert McInnes, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.

 

Several animals went under the hammer at 1800gns. First in line was the supreme champion lamb from the Hewgill flock of Messrs Lord, Kirby Stephen, Cumbria, selling to Walter Sutcliffe, Settle, North Yorkshire.

Two lambs both from Craigskean flock of J and M Kerr, Ayrshire also went under the hammer at 1800gns, both secured by R Loughridge, Ballymoney, Co.Antrim.

 

The reduction of the Drinkstone Flock of D E and K Gray saw 7 animals forward averaging £123.00. The dispersal of the Walton Flock of JB and S N Mounsey saw 28 head averaging £224.63.

 

 Averages: 6 ewes, £582.75; 36 gimmers, £660.92; 19 Lambs, £837.24.
