Border and Lakeland Holsteins sell to 2200gns
No fewer than a third of the entries at last week’s Border and Lakeland Holstein Club sale at Carlisle traded at 2000gns or more, with the top price a 2200gns bid.
This top price was paid for one of several young heifers from Messrs G and M Wilson’s Snow herd sired by Denmire Gold Medal. She now joins Messrs Sanderson’s Burtholme herd at Brampton.
Second highest price at 2150gns was a daughter of Charpentier Magot from highly successful breeders and sellers of top quality heifers Messrs Wilson, Skirwith Hall Farms. This heifer from the Mavis family now heads to south west Scotland dairy of Messrs Marshall, Auckenleck, Castle Douglas.
Selling for 2100gns was one of a line up of stylish, powerful, good uddered heifers from the Milnes of Carcary Farms, Brechin, Angus. Their lead entry was Carcary Jockey Heather Red by Wikkerink Jockey Red. She is backed by a VG85 dam and three successive excellent homebred cows and was bought by T H and J Robinson, Silloth.
Averages; 34 heifers ÂŁ1862.51 (Harrison and Hetherington).
