Border and Lakeland dairy sale tops 3,400gns
Trade at the July Border and Lakeland show and sale dropped by £237 on the month, with 79 heifers leveling at £1,698.
Top quality heifers met strong demand, with trade topping at 3,400gns for the overall show champion Snow Minnie 60 from G and M Wilson, Appleby, Cumbria.
Born in March 2012 she is sired by Denmire Murphy and is out of a VG89-classified dam. She sold to DR and HM Horsley, Penrith, Cumbria, having calved last month.
Next best at 2,700gns was Evening Windbrook Primrose from Evening Hill Farms, Thursby, Carlisle. This Gillette Windbrook daughter is bred from a Ex94 dam and sold to an undisclosed buyer.
RJ Raven, Wigton, Cumbria, paid 2,200gns for the April 2012-born Evening Baroque Primrose, sired by Magor Baroque Allen and out of a VG86 homebred dam by Ladino Park Talent.
A 2050gns call secured J and M Lyle, Broxburn, West Lothian, DA Howie and Sons’ January 2012-born Morwick Sparkle 103 by Morwick Satnav Red, from their farm in Morpeth, Northumberland.
Three lots made 2,000gns.
First of these was paid by Alan McCamley, Cumnock, Ayrshire, for Ryemuir Prosper Joyce from B Sloan, Lockerbie. Sired by Annan Windy this three-year-old is out of a homebred dam.
At the same money was the two-year-old Morwick Kirsty 8 also from the Howie family. Sired by Stardale Judge Red she is out of a Welberger Sonlight daughter, classified GP83. She travelled home with the top price lot to Penrith.
Final at this money was the Alh Regan Mizuno daughter Wormanby Mizuno Dorothy, from H, M and D Hodgson, Carlisle, Cumbria.
Buyer was W Moffat, Gretna, Dumfriesshire.
Averages: two cows in milk/calf; £1,785; 79 heifers in milk/calf, £1,698.68; and 11 unregistered heifers, £1,661.86.
