Cargriff dispersal tops 1,200gns at Abergavenny show and sale

Pedigree sheep breeders from as far asCornwall gathered at Abergavenny Livestock market for the 33rdannual show and sale of top quality Suffolk females.

 

Brisk bidding resulted in 96% clearance,with only five lots unsold.

 

The sale included the dispersal of GriffMorris and Family’s Cargriff flock from Carmarthenshire.

 

The flock was strongly supported andachieved the day’s top four prices.  

 

Top price of the day was 1,200gns paid for ashearling ewe by Cairness Coalition out of a Perrinpit Popeye-sired ewe.

She stood second in the show earlier thatday and was purchased by D Callan, Haverfordwest.

 

Three sold at the next top price of1,100gns. First into the ring was a two-year-old ewe by Plasllewelyn Pittsburghout of a ewe by Birness Aqua, which was brought by Jimmy Douglas, of theCairness flock.

 

Next at the same money was two Coalitiondaughters. The first sold to Dai Harvey, Builth Wells, and the second -out ofewe by Plasllewelyn Pittsburgh – was snapped up by Jimmy Douglas.

 

In the show the first prize ewe lamb fromWorcestershire breeder John Sinnett, of the Stockton Flock, sold for 950gns. ByStockton Arwell and out of a Cairness Impact sire, she was brought by theJudge, Matt Legge.

Sellingat the next top price of 800gns was the first prize and Reserve Champion eweshown by T C and C A Harding, ‘Bentley’, Warwickshire. It sold to and made PHope, Longtown, Herefordshire.  TheHardings sold another at the same price to Messrs Ferguson and Greenow, Brecon.

 

MikeDavies and Sons, ‘Safaddan’ sold to a top of 780gns for a Strathisla Stonerdaughter, taken by D Morgan, Aberystwyth.

 

JohnSinnett’s ‘Stockton’ pen also included ewe lambs which sold at 750gns and720gns to Mrs J Phillips, Falmouth, Cornwall.

 

GeoffBiddulph, ‘Pexhill’ sold the first prize shearling ewe at 660gns to R Giddy,Worcester. Just shy of this R B and G M Morgan and Partners sold one byDeveronside Olympion at 600gns to Mrs Phillips, Cornwall. The same price was achievedlater in the sale by Messrs Hallam and Eggleston, who sold to R Whittingham,Raglan.
