Carlisle primestock sale meets solid trade

Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale of cattlesaw one of the largest ringsides of buyers to ensure a solid trade.

Messrs Hendersonof Park House sold the top priced British Blue cow at 249.50ppk (864kg).

Next was Messrs Telfer and Son of Newton High House sold the top overallpriced British Blue cow for 246.50ppk (901kg).

Then Messrs Errington of Beck House Farm also sold a British Blue cowfor 857kg 235.50p £2018. All three top priced beasts sold to CharlesKirkpatrick.

 

There was a smaller show of prime cattle on offer, with a dearertrade for all classes. Mr Ian Grainger of Kiln Close Farm sold a Limousin crossheifer for 258.50p/kg again to Mr Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Dodd of West Viewrun of bullocks sold to 254.50p/kg bought by Mr Charles Kirkpatrick. MessrsDodd also sold the top overall priced Limousin cross bullock selling for250.50p/kg at 761kg, £1906 again to Mr Charles Kirkpatrick.

A good number of prime hoggs wereforward despite it being a bank holiday. Although a very mixed show, all weights and grades met a good demandwith top end export quality hoggs taking a big lift to register one of thedearest trades seen this season; regularly making £120-130. Topping the sale at£137.50 was a marvellous pair of Beltex hoggs consigned by Mr G Anderson,Nether Stenries, Dumfries, which sold to Mr R Skelton, Dearham.  Top price a kilo was paid for four Beltexhoggs consigned by Messrs W Gribbon and Co, Waterside Farm, Dumfries; weighing38.5kg they sold at £125.50 (326p/kg) to Mr S Stoddart, Wigton.  Messrs Gribbons’ run of 38 Beltex hoggsaveraged £123.07.

A nice show of cast ewes met a great enquiry throughout being easily £10dearer on the week selling to a top of £127.50 for a Suffolk ram from ClarksFarm.
