Centre record for Beltex at Skipton

Beltex achieved a new breed centre record of 4,000gns in Skipton at the breed society’s official show and sale at the weekend.

Sale leader at 4,000gns was Hudhey Rockafella, a shearling ram by Borderesk Leap Frog and out of a Beachy bred dam. Bred and exhibited by George Cropper, Baxenden, Accrington, he was knocked down sold to S Forshaw, Longridge, Preston. George Cropper who was repeating history having smashed the Skipton breed record 12 months earlier, went on to offer another shearling ram at 1,000gns, this time Holmebeck Romulus, by Callacrag Neptune and bred by P and A Moss. The buyer was DC Evans, Llanrhaeadr.

Later in the day, Mr Cropper’s female and overall champion Woodies Ringtone, bred by Stuart Wood, came under the hammer sold for 2,200gns. Sired by Ardstewart Party Politics, this shearling was out of a Heatheryhall bred dam. The buyer was Stuart Wood, Aberdeen.

Skipton12 Woodies Ringtone 2200gns.jpgNext in the ring was Mr Cropper’s home bred Hudhey Rose, another shearling gimmer by a Northern Beltex ram and out of a homebred Hudhey dam. Rose was secured for 1,900gns by James Little, Thursby.

Shearling rams by the imported Bobana V/D Duvels Vleeskupe Terminator and bred by John and Elaine Hedley, Thorne, Doncaster were in ready demand. Tosh Roy, their leading lot at 1,600gns to PN Noble, Guisborough was out of a homebred ewe also going back to imported lines. The next Terminator son and out of a Puleston bred dam was Tosh Rex at 1,300gns to DJ Wilson, Helmsley. Minutes later, Tosh Richie made 1,250gns to R JR Ogden, Austwick.

Skelton Whin Shaun, a ram lamb by Clary Kaiser Chief and out of a homebred dam then led the trade at 1,200gns for T Hunter, Humnanby, Filey to James Little, Thursby. Earlier in the day, Mr Hunter’s male and overall reserve champion Skelton Whin Randy Bishop by Beautry Morfin commanded a bid of 1,120gns from the pre-sale show judge, DS Wadland, Aston-Le-Walls, Northamptonshire. A second 1,120gns bid was made this time by D Lee, Kirkby Sigston for Skelton Whin Racecard, another shearling ram by Morfin. The third shearling ram by Morfin at four figures was Skelton Whin Rearend which sold for 1,000gns to CM Ryder, Otley.

Stuart Currie, Rathmell, Settle was in the money with two shearling ram entries. First to go at 1,100gns was Beautry Rimsky, a Rathbone Leader son and out of a homebred dam. The buyer was M Crabtree, Harrogate. Next lot in the ring at 1,000gns to SJ Stables, Charlton Musgrove, Somerset was Beautry Royston, a Dooley Nissan son and out of a homebred ewe.

The reserve male title went to Wiskers Rouer, a shearling ram from AC and SA Hutchinson, Kirby Wiske, Thirsk. Sired by Buckles Pendulum, and out of a homebred dam, he was secured for 1,000gns by J and JE Bradley, Giggleswick.

The Findlay and Ashton partnership, Coverham, Leyburn offered the reserve female champion, a shearling gimmer by Burnside Jethro and out of a Highlander bred dam. She was made 800gns to J Howieson, Watchet, Somerset.
