Charolais sell to 11,500gns at Thainstone

Charolais met an exceptional trade leading the Royal Northern Spring show, sale and averages at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie yesterday where bulls sold to a top of 11,500gns and 16 lots averaged ÂŁ5,545.

Heading a string of entries from Jock Wilson, Glenkindie, Alford, and each by the 20,000gns Perth supremo, Thrunton Crownprince, was Kinclune Golden, a 20 month old out of a Maerdy Rumbull sired homebred dam. At 11,500gns, the buyer was Neil Barclay, Crathes, Banchory.

Thainstone13Kinclune Golden 11500gns.jpgMr Barclay earlier on had been awarded the Charolais and overall interbreed championships with Harestone General, a rising two year old by Royal Mozard and out of a Bowerhouses Topper sired dam. He was knocked down sold for 5,500gns to DM McCallum, Culbokie, Dingwall. Thainstone13Harestone General 5500gns.jpgA 6,200gns price tag accompanied Kinclune Gallagher, an 18 month old out of a Solomon dam and selling to Peter Ferries, Lumphanan, Banchory. Next for Jock Wilson at 5,800gns was Kinclune Garth to AJ Blackhall, Tarland, Aboyne.  Garth was a 21 month old out of a Solomon bred dam. One of the day’s three, 5,000gns bids went to Mr Wilson’s Crownprince son, Kinclune Goliath, a 20 month old was secured by A and J Wilson, Culsalmond, Insch.   

Among the day’s highest calls at 8,000gns was Bonnykelly General TI +32, SRI +27, a 22 month old by Newhouse Challanger and out of a Burradon Talisman sired homebred dam from Bob Leggat, New Pitsligo. The buyer was JA Cruickshank, Longmorn, Elgin.

Father and son team, Neil and Graeme Massie, Dinnet, Aboyne offered their 22 month old Blelack Garfield TI +50, SRI +38 at 6,500gns to A Adam and Son, Knock, Huntly. Sired by the 15,000gns Goldies Dynamite, he was out of a homebred dam by the 12,000gns Pedr Tennessee.

J Baxter, Gamrie, Banff paid 5,000gns for Elrick Gambler TI +34, SRI +27, a two year old  Edenhurst Cognac son bred and exhibited by Michael Massie, Auchnagatt, Ellon. The day’s final 5,000gns bid was made by D and A McLeod, Shougle, Elgin for the Massie’s Blelack Golden TI +48, SRI +51, a 21 month old by Swalesmoor Bayonet and out of a Bassingbourn Ralph dam.

LIMOUSIN

The Thainstone Centre breed record for Limousin was matched with a 7,000gns bid for the unplaced April 2011-born Buchaam Gigantic from Charles and Keith Ogg, Buchaam, Strathdon by Ian Wilson, Fordie, Torphins.

That was followed by a 6,000gns bid from E and S Jaffrey, Candyglirach, Drumoak, Banchory, for the class-winning May 2011-born Limousin Dumbreck Glenlivit from Messrs Work, Mains of Drumbreck, Udny, Ellon.

The Limousin champion was the July 2011-born Anside Goblin from Mr and Mrs S Irvine, Braehead Farm, Drummuir, Banffshire, which was not put up for auction.

SIMMENTAL

Leading the Simmental trade was a 7,200gns bid for the August 2011-born Drumsleed Challenger from Gerald Smith, Drumsleed, Fordoun, Laurencekirk, which went to E and S Jaffrey.

Jimmy and Iain Green, Corskie, Garmouth, Fochabers, secured a bid of 5,600gns for the March 2011-born Corskie Carter 11 from Messrs Arnott, Bridgend, Tyrie, Fraserburgh.

The Simmental champion was the May2011-born Tillyeve Casper from C and M Bruce, Tillyeve, Udny, Ellon, which was not put up for auction. The Bruce’s’ did sell the March 2011-born Tillyeve Casablanca for 4,500gns to K Thain and Son, Shank of Glenbarry, Knock, Huntly.

ABERDEEN ANGUS

Top price in the Aberdeen Angus classes was 5,500gns to Neil Wattie, Mains of Tonley, Alford, from Ian and Mark Baxter, Troup Home Farm, Gamrie, Banff, for the April 2011-born reserve champion Tonley Vettel.

The AA champion, the March 2011-born Logie Eyesight from Messrs Bruce and Partners, Mains of Logie, Ellon, fetched 3,500gns from Liam Muir, Upper Onston, Stenness, Stromness, Orkney.

BEEF SHORTHORN

Leading price In the Beef Shorthorns was 3,400gns to Andrew Anderson, Smallburn Farms, Plewlands, Duffus, Elgin, from D Taylor, Hall of Herston, St Margarets Hope, Orkney, for the third placed April 2011-born Smallburn Eddie.

A total of 59 bulls sold to average ÂŁ4,291.65 a head.
