Colman dairy dispersal hits 3,000gns high

Holsteins peaked at 3,000gns and Jerseys sold to 2,100gns at the Bunby family’s Colman and Berwick dairy dispersal at Whitland mart, Carmarthenshire, last week (10 July).

 

Sale headliner was their homebred second calver Colman Icefyre Dora 2 VG85. She gave 11,125kgs as a heifer and is currently giving 53.3kgs daily, having calved with her second in February. This Braedale Icefyre daughter is out of a 13,070kgs dam.  Buyer was WJ Evans of Mathry, Pembrokeshire.

 

The same buyer paid 2,650gns for another homebred second calver, the VG86 Colman Lucius Mildred.  This Savage Leign Lucius daughter sold giving 46.4kgs daily.

 

Topping trade for the family’s pedigree Jersey herd at 2,100gns was the VG87 third calver Berwick Iatola Shottle. She last calved in January after giving 6,968kgs at 6.20%.

The buyers of this SC Gold Dust Paramount Iatola daughter were Dafyydd and Helen Cox, Laugharne, Carmarthenshire.

 

Next best at 1,600gns was the VG88 fourth calver Plowden Aces Eve. Purchaser was EA Davies, Cardigan.

 

Youngstock prices peaked at 2,050gns for the in-calf heifer Colman Toyota Dora, due in November to Woodmarsh Metallic. Buyer was ADW Davies, Narberth, Pembrokeshire.

 

WOJ Reed and Co, Spittal, Haverfordwest, paid 2,000gns for Colman Lofficiel Emily, due in September.

 

Holstein maiden heifers sold to 1,320gns and Jersey maiden heifers topped at 980gns.

 

Averages: Holstein Friesians – 22 calved cows and heifers, £1,625.59; 10 aged and three quartered cows, £589.05; 13 served heifers, £1,476.46; eight maiden heifers, £876.75; four heifer calves, £669.38; 57 head in total, £1,237.53.

 

Jerseys – 14 calved cows and heifers, £1,158; seven aged and three quartered cows, £531; five maiden heifers; £867.30; 26 head in total, £933.29.
