Bidding for coloured breeds topped at 2,800gns twice at Beeston, Cheshire, this week.
Despite strong trade for milkers youngstock were harder to sell and averages were down slightly on the year.
Sale leader at 2,800gns was the Ayrshire heifer Fobec Good Cherryleaf from Fiona Kent and Becky Waring, from Ashbourne and Beverley. This daughter of Brieryside Jubilant Scot is bred from six generations of VG/Ex dams of the Bigginvale Cherryleaf family. She sold to Steve Oultram for his Stamford Herd at Ewloe, Deeside.
Trade in the Jersey section matched this with a call of 2,800gns for Cherryview Vindication Lacey ET, a fresh second calver also from Judith Waring of Beverley.
She is bred from eight generations of cows classified in the top two grades and originates from a top North American cow family. This outstanding young cow, with enormous show potential, calved just under a month and was sold giving 28 kg to Graham’s Family Dairy of Bridge of Allen, Stirling.
Next at 2,450gns was another Ayrshire heifer this time from Geraint Thomas’ Gwynnog herd, Llanelli. This daughter of Jelvca Oblique sold to JE and SM Seedall, Mellor, Lancashire.
Another same breed heifer from the same home and by Visserdale Stealth made just shy of this at 2,300gns when selling to PM and L Harris and Son, Derby.
A run of in?calf Ayrshire heifers from RC and AL Adams Ltd of Tean, Stoke?on?Trent, sold to 1,800gns twice for daughters of Green Lane Marshall and Stamford Ambassador respectively, with both selling to Messrs Harris.
Then back with the Jerseys at 1,450gns was Shellen Engage Holly from Savage and Fleming of Bolton Appleby, Cumbria, a grand daughter of Forest Glen Avery Action, she sold to FM Coar & Son of Waddington, Nr. Clitheroe.
At the same money was Wilkeswood Ambassador Alex, by Smiddiehill Ambassador consigned by Mrs C Beardmore of Creswell, Stafford. She sold to PJ and CA Wilkinson of Byley, Middlewich.
The third at 1,450 gns was an in?calf heifer from the Yorkshire based Ribblesdale Herd of G and D McAlpine. Ribblesdale Ace Minnie by Senn Sational Paramount Ace, and carrying a service for November calving to DJ Lix sold to JG Williams, Nantwich who also purchased a calved heifer by the same sire from the same home for 1,430 gns.
On the same day FMS and SAS Mahon’s Upgate Jersey herd, Norwich, went under the hammer. Topping trade at 1850 gns for the fresh heifer Upgate Hulk Witchette, a daughter of DJ Hulk out of an Al?Top All American dam. She was purchased by Grahams Family Dairy of Bridge of Allan, Stirling, who purchased a total of 20 animals from the herd including all the top lots.
Leading the Derbyshire=based Whiteoaks Farming reduction sale at 1,250gns was Whiteoaks Bobyjo Crunchy (VG85), a second calf daughter of Smiddiehill Bobyjo, which calved at the end of August. She sold to Philip Manning of Minsterley.
