Coltrim Angus sale peaks at 2,350gns

A top price of 2,350gns marked Neville and Ivan Forsythe’s draft sale of their Coltrim Aberdeen Angus herd at Dungannon Farmer’s Mart.

Sale leader was the June 2009 born Coltrim Diana J251, which caught the eye of pedigree breeder Kenneth Craig who runs the Beechfield Herd based at Ballyclare, County Antrim. Sired by the herd’s jointly owned stock bull Wedderlie Net Proft E916, she was sold with her five-month-old Curragh David J513 ET heifer calf at foot.

Mr Craig also paid 1,920gns to secure the May 2010 born Coltrim Lady Jane K483 also by Wedderlie Net Proft E916. She was sold with her April born Curragh David J513 bull calf at foot and is P’d back in-calf to the same sire.

Selling for 1,920gns was Coltrim Diana K435, another Wedderlie Net Profit E916 daughter born in April 2010. Included in the price tag was her three-month-old bull calf by Curragh David J513. This cow and calf outfit joins the Loughans Herd, owned by Ulster and Ireland rugby hooker Rory Best from Gilford, County Armagh.

Next best at 1,900gns was the August 2007 born Kiltariff Dynamic D711 daughter Coltrim Evana G525. She was sold with her April born Wedderlie Net Proft E916 bull calf at foot and is P’d in-calf to Curragh David J513. Buyer was Paddy Gormley from Cabragh, County Tyrone.

Rory Best also paid out 1,750gns to secure the June 2009 born Coltrim Evana J236. Sired by Wedderlie Net Proft E916, she is in-calf to Curragh David J513 ET.

The herd’s four-year-old stock bull Curragh David J513 ET came under the hammer at 1,900gns, selling to pedigree breeder Francey Warwick, owner of the Castlegore Herd, based at Moorfields, Ballymena, County Antrim.

Sired by Hoff Limited Edition FC594 and bred from Sandy Bar Duchess 33G ET, he is a full brother to the noted Canadian-bred BJ’s No Limits.  His Breedplan figures include milk +10, TSI +30, SRI +36, and eye muscle area +28 (top 15%).

Junior bulls peaked at 1,650gns, realised by the sixteen-month-old Coltrim Donald M161. He was sired by Curragh David J513, and is out of the Wedderlie Net Proft E916 daughter Coltrim Diana K494. He is +14 for milk, and has a terminal sire index of +31 and a self replacing index of +38. Buyer was Gordon Ross from Strabane, County Tyrone.
