Christmas cracker Texel sale trade tops 9,000gns
A brace of in-lamb Texels sales at Carlisle on Friday (6 December) saw prices hit a high of 9,000gns in the Christmas Crackers invitational sale.
Taking the day’s top call was Aberdeenshire-based breeder Graham Morrison of the Deveronvale flock, with Mr Morrison’s sale leader, MGV1200302, selling to Melanie Kellet, Northamptonshire.
This gimmer, a Tophill Spartacus daughter is out of a dam by Glenside Lieutenant and in-lamb to the noted Strathbogie Terminator, the 2013 Texel sire of the year.
The sale’s second best call of 5,000gns was achieved on two occasions, with the first at this money coming from the Knock pen of Albert and George Howie, also Aberdeenshire.
The Howie’s pen leader, HAK 1200376, is a daughter of stock sire Sportsman’s Supreme and out of a dam by Anglezarke Krug. She sold in-lamb to Sportsman’s Trojan II and was knocked down with an index of 331 to Esmor Evans, Mold, for the Maerdy flock.
Trading at this money also was a shearling ewe from John Forsyth’s Glenside pen. This gimmer, FPG1200538, is a daughter of Hull House Space Cowboy and out of a dam by Muiresk Nearco. She sold to Iain Barbour, Annan, for the newly established Solwaybank flock. She traded with an index of 261 and in-lamb to 10,000gns ram lamb Castlecairn Union Lido.
Mr Forsyth was also in the money again when taking 4,000gns for another Glenside gimmer, FPG1200443. This daughter of the homebred sire Glenside Roller is out of another Nearco daughter and sold in-lamb to Union Lido too. She was bought by Alasdair Beaton, Wester Crosshill.
Another then sold at 4,000gns, with this being from the Deveronvale pen of Graham Morrison, MGV1200263. This ET bred gimmer is by Tophill Spartacus and out of a dam by Baltier Nailer. She sold in-lamb to Strathbogie Terminator and was bought by D G and N Williams, Tregaron.
Mr Morrison then sold again at 3,500gns, with this paid for a gimmer by Glenside Razzle Dazzle, MGV1200333. She is out of a Deveronvale On Top daughter and sold in-lamb to Terminator too. Buying her were Messrs C and I Angus, Thurso.
Two gimmers then sold at the next best price of 3,000gns too. Both of these came from the Knock offering of the Howie family. Their first to make 3,000gns was HAK1200416, a Supreme daughter out of a dam by Glenside Loneranger and going back to Ettrick Esquire. This one was again in-lamb to Sportsman’s Trojan II and sold to Esmor Evans, Mold.
Second from the Howies at this price was HAK1200408, a Sportsman’s Supreme daughter out of a Knock Orion dam. Again in-lamb to 20,000gns Trojan II she was bought by Oldford Texels, Chester.
And selling for 2,500gns was another from Graham Morrison, Deveronvale, MGV1200274. This Spartacus daughter is out of a dam by Nailer and was bought by C N and N Raine, Middleton-In-Teesdale. She was in-lamb to 6,000gns Lanark purchase Garngour Ultimatum.
A further entry from the Knock pen of Albert and George Howie then made 2,000gns, with this being HAK1200378, another by Sportsman’s Supreme and out of a Garngour Nobleman daughter. In-lamb to the noted sire Cambwell Rob-Roy she was bought by S Evans, Morpeth.
Also at 2000gns was a Glenside gimmer, FPG1200496, from John Forsyth, Maybole, Ayrshire. Sired by Hull House Space Cowboy she is out of a Muiresk Blondin-sired dam and was in-lamb to 20,000gns Strathbogie Upping the Ante. This one headed to the Solwaybank flock with Iain Barbour.
A final bid of 2,000gns came for a Deveronvale gimmer from Graham Morrison, MGV1200347. This Glenside Razzle Dazzle daughter is out of a dam by Langside Nero and sold in-lamb to Strathbogie Terminator. This gimmer was bought by J M and B Sutherland, Latherton, Caithness.
