Cracking Christmas dairy trade sees 2,800gns high

A cracking trade was seen at the annual Christmas Cracker dairy sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre which saw a high of 2,800gns achieved for a prize winning heifer.

It was judge Robert Symms second prize winning heifer that topped the day’s trade for AJ Bennett and Sons with Lilylane Evolve Orchid 59th a November calved heifer that had descended from the Wiseburrow Orchid show cow. She joins J Tamplin and Son.

At 2,650gns was the day’s champion and first prize winning cow from FG Summerhayes and Son Otter Loader Malmsey that had calved to her second in November and was out of a Hartlandview dam.

At 2,550gns was Bettiscombe Bolivia Sweet the second calver from nine generations of VG or Ex dams from regular consigners Roland and Simon Bugler. Rookhaye Final Cut Mary the VG85 second calver from Rookhaye Estate sold for 2,520gns.

The second top priced heifer at 2,500gns was Treetop Shot Al Flora from Geoff Morgan.
AG Lambert and Partners consigned seven heifers that had calved in September and were reserved to average an impressive ÂŁ2,175.

First time consigners B and J Daw from Hertfordshire presented six Jersey heifers which created considerable interest selling to ÂŁ1,512 for Tetfor Max Magda who was freshly calved in November.

In-calf heifers sold to 1,900gns for Hinton Million Bianca 2nd due December to the Holstein bull Wiltor Galaxy for RD Horton and Son.

The bulls forward sold to 1,700gns for Crystal Golden Phantom from Miss C Elmes and bulling heifers to 980gns for Orchardfarm Cracker Cherry for Mrs A Redman.
