Booth family win long profitable life cow competition

Feizer Shottle Delia became the ninth winner of the 2017 Genus ABS Long Profitable Life Cow competition.

Born in 2002, Delia is classified Ex94 and is giving 50 litres/day in her tenth lactation, having already given more than 120t of milk.

The winner is owned by WA and A Booth from Austwick, Yorkshire, who picked up the award at the UK Dairy Day earlier this week (Wednesday 13 September).

The competition is judged by a panel from the different departments of the Genus ABS business and is open to all cows throughout the UK, not necessarily sired by Genus ABS genetics.

The regional and overall winners are chosen by an independent master judge. This year was the turn of Ayrshire and Holstein breeder Andrew Broadley from the Whitecroft herd in Derbyshire.

David Booth said he was delighted with the win: “Feizer Shottle Delia is an amazing cow that never puts a foot wrong. She’s extremely youthful for her age and has a fantastic temperament.”

The three other regional finalists were:

• South – Causeway Number 417, 12th-lactation Holstein that has yielded more than 142t of milk and held to first service nine times. Owned by Messrs Chinn, Shaftesbury Dorset.
• West – Malpas Lucky Blomke 47 Ex95 (5E), 11th-lactation Holstein cow with a lifetime yield of 114t. She has components like a Jersey with yields up to 6.07% fat and 3.6% protein. She is owned by Messrs Dimelow, Malpas Cheshire.
• Northern Ireland – Ards Shottle Belinda Ex94 (6E), 110t in 10 lactations with exceptional components, fertility and cell counts. Was also last year’s regional winner and owned by Messrs Patton, Newtownards, County Down.
