Dairy Event 2010: Livestock farmers welcomed to new venue
Thousands of farmers are descending on the Dairy Event and Livestock Show which opens its gates on Tuesday morning (7 September).
It is the first time that the two-day event has been held at the NEC, Birmingham – the show has traditionally been held at the National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh in Warwickshire.
The show will be opened by HRH Princess Royal who will meet farmers and tour the livestock hall where 220 cattle will be competing for the supreme interbreed championship.
Over 14,500 visitors are expected to attend including guests from more than 30 countries.
Organisers, the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers, said advanced ticket sales had gone well, indicating that farmers recognised the relocated site made it easier for people to get there by train and air.
“Relocating the event to The NEC really does mean that many more farmers will now be able to get there and back in a day and see it all,” said RABDF chief executive Nick Everington.
“Furthermore, spending the day with like-minded people in a friendly but professional environment will enable visitors to leave behind the daily chores and focus on thinking about the future and doing business with the record number of 480 exhibitors, as well as take in the seminars, beef and sheep demonstrations, and dairy cattle judging.”
