Dairy Event 2011: Tom King named Gold cup winner

Tom King and family from Vortex Holsteins have walked away with the prestigious NMR/RABDF Gold Cup.
Mr King is the fourth generation at Church Farm, Martinstown, Dorchester, and runs the 300 cows with his father Alan. Since 2000 the herd has more than doubled to its current size with cows averaging 11,568kg a cow a year at 3.9% fat and 3.03% protein.
Judge and RABDF chairman, David Cotton said: “The Kings have a fantastic, consistent herd of cows. The management and attention to detail is superb.”
The family had been shortlisted for the coveted award last year, but Mr Cotton said the developments made in the last 12 month had improved the business even more.
Runners up were the Miller family from Grenville Hall Farm, Evesham, Worcestershire, with their herd of 280 cows averaging 11,801kg a cow a year at 3.70% fat and 3.15% protein.
