Farmers encouraged to make energy savings

Farmers should be analysing their energy costs to see where savings can be made, is the advice from DairyCo.
Price rises combined with the current economic situation, it is essential for dairy farmers to do whatever they can to maintain profitability, says Dairy Co’s Kate Cross.
An energy audit can be a good starting point to see where money is being spent and what savings can be made.
The process will help farmers understand their electricity consumption and patterns of usage, analyse the electricity contract, and saving new equipment could make in terms of capital cost versus savings.
Outside of the audit farmers can also become more efficient by checking certain points.
For example switching to cheaper overnight rates and looking for suppliers who offer cheaper rates around milking patterns is important.
Simple factors such as making sure the milk tank is well insulated and fitting energy efficient light bulbs can also save money.
