Saudi Arabian residents will be tucking into a bumper load of Stilton today, thanks to a special air-freighetd delivery by The Cheese Company.
The cheesemaker, which is owned by dairy co-op Milk Link, has sent a consignment of Stilton cheese to the Middle-Eastern country for the first time.
Five tonnes of the blue-veined cheese were air-freighted to arrive in time for Christmas, said the firm.
Head of exports Simon Mercer said its Stilton exports worldwide had grown 20% in the last four years and demand was still growing. The Cheese Company is set to ship 300t this year.
“People in the Middle East are demanding more cheeses originating from Europe and developing a taste for the distinctive taste of Stilton and they are not just British expats,” he said.
