Milk recording service wins award

Quality Milk Management Services (QMMS) has been awarded an International Committee for Animal Recording Certificate of Quality for their milk recording service.

QMMS is the first ever UK milk recording body to undergo and pass an independent ICAR audit of its processes and services, says ICAR technical adviser Frank Armitage.

“There are only nine holders of the certificate worldwide,” he says.

The QMMS service is used by more than 200 dairy farmers in England, Wales and Scotland, says Andrew Bradley of QMMS.

“Our services were originally designed to give a highly flexible choice of milk recording services, with more help interpreting the results than had previously been available.”

In addition to the value of external accreditation, the ICAR audit has helped QMMS make some changes for the better, Dr Bradley explains.

“It has helped us create a more streamlined process and a thorough audit trail for example.

“This means, if a farmer or breed society ever needs to double check the validity of their data, we can do this and they can have the assurance it is being done to ICAR’s high standards.”
