East of England Show: Sheep interbreed championship

Champion was awarded to Sally Horrell and her shearling ewe which has previously won the breed championship titles at the Highland and Woodhall Spire Show. She is one of 50 ewes owned by Sally and Charles Horrell of Pode Hole Farm, Thorney, Peterborough. This one is by Yarcombe Huzzar and out of a homebred ewe.

Judge Robert Jordan said: “She has tremendous character for the breed and is good on her legs with good teeth. She is very balanced and showed herself well – overall a very pretty female – and I’m always a sucker for a pretty female.”

Mr Jordan chose the Charollais shearing ewe, YGD 310 for his reserve spot. This one was shown in the ring by Gemma Maxwell for her father John of Moor Farm, Ely, Cambridgeshire. The ewe is by a Myfer Evans tup which was bred by Parkgate Hurricane, and out of Dalby Hagrid.

This was the Maxwells first outing to the East of England Show and the first time they had shown the ewe.
