Top price in the Young Farmers overwintered cattle competition at Forfar over the weekend was a £3600 bid for the champion, a Limousin cross heifer exhibited by Rory Stodart, Mill of Inverarity, Forfar.
The 480kg heifer was bought at Forfar in November for £1020 from the Paton family, Spott, Kirriemuir. Buying this one was Graham Easton, The Ranch, Letham, in partnership with David and John Lumgair, The Gask, Letham. This top price also gave Rory the best return on his initial investment and earned him the Jockey Jan memorial trophy.
Reserve champion and second best price of the day was a Limousin cross bullock from Matthew Steel, Criagnathro Farm, Forfar, which tipped the scales at 485kg and sold for £1040 to David and John Lumgair, Letham. The bullock was also bred at Spott by the Paton family.
