Free app launched to measure your calf growth

Calf rearers looking for a free way of monitoring individual and group calf growth rates on their smartphone have a new tool available from a leading milk replacer manufacturer.

Volac’s new Feed for Growth app is designed to help farmers track animal performance and assess whether youngstock are meeting growth targets specific to individual farms.

Once farmers have registered on Volac’s website, the next step is to enter their weight targets to track against a graph.

Herds and batches can be congregated into coloured groups and every calf is recorded with its unique ear tag number, with a function to record any health or feeding difficulties it may have.

How to register for the app

  • Define your farm’s birthweight, weaning weight, age at weaning and mature bodyweight
  • Register on the Feed For Growth website
  • Enter your farm’s growth targets
  • Download the app

All farm data is kept strictly confidential and will not be collected or used by any party.

Dairy day

Farmers attending UK Dairy Day in Telford, Shropshire, on 12 September can ask for a demonstration of the calf app and claim a free weigh tape at the same time.
