Foot and mouth disease zone reduced

The foot and mouth disease Risk Area has been reduced from 200km to a restricted boundary of 10km, DEFRA has announced.
The new zone (see map below) contains the existing Surveillance Zone, and surround an area where extra surveillance is being undertaken. The SV remains unchanged and strict restrictions continue to apply in both the new restriction zone and the SZ.
DEFRA has said that, although the risk of disease is ‘very low’, it cannot be completely excluded, but it is expected that the SV will be lifted on 5 November, subject to there being no change in the disease situation.
