Hemsworth Holsteins top 3500gns
Fresh milk to turn grass into cash encouraged lively bidding at the dispersal of Crab Farms’ Hemsworth Holstein herd at Blandford, Dorset. And it was a member of the herd’s noted Fairy family that led the trade at 3500gs.
The VG85 second calver Hemsworth Sinatra Fairy calved in November and was giving just over 43kg. She stayed locally with an undisclosed Dorset buyer.
A third calver by Moet Rio Grande, giving 60kg from a December calving, made 2300gns to a Devon buyer who left with 23 purchases. Silverpost Sinatra had made a big impact on the herd and another of his daughters due in May led the in-calf heifers at 1520gns. She was bred from an 11,000kg dam hailing from the Noreen family at Terling.
Heifers due in Octo0ber to Roylane Jordan reached 1450gns on a day that saw a flying trade for all youngstock. Averages: cows and heifers £1360; in-calf and served heifers £1323; bulling heifers £1080; yearling heifers £801; calves £506. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt).
