Hereford bulls sell to 3,200gns at Dungannon

Hereford bulls sold to 3,200guineas  – topping the Northern Ireland Nativebreeds sale at the Dungannon Farmers Mart on Tuesday.

Top price of the day was recordedfor the Reserve Champion exhibited by Robin Irvine from Whitecross, Co Armagh.

 He also exhibited the Supreme Champion which sold for 2,800gns. Both animalswere sired by the Graceland herd sire – Greenyards 1 Dougie, which alsoproduced the top price at the Premier Show and Sale in January.

Mervyn Richmond from Co Fermanagh wasanother to cross the 3,000 barrier – making 3,100gns for his first prizewinning junior bull sired by Church Hill Ginger.

Mervyn Richmond of the SelectHereford breeders group was very pleased with the clearance achieved and thesale average of ÂŁ2,670 for the eight bulls sold. “It is encouraging to see thehigh level of interest in the Hereford at the minute. We have a number of newconverts to the breed with bulls sold to both beef and dairy herds across theprovince”, said Mervyn.
