Hereford cow triumphs at National Horned show

Females dominated the winning lines at the recent Hereford Cattle Society National Horned Show, Tenbury Wells.

Taking the top spot was Mara Pansy 20, a cow described by Australian judge James Higgins as ‘world class’ .

“She had great femininity, good top line and udder and had a calf to be proud of,” he said.

This one was put forward by Lesley Jackson, Tring, Herefordshire, who had similar success last year after receiving Grand Female Championship with another Mara female, Mara Blossom 31.

Reserve Supreme Champion was another female, this time the Intermediate Female Champion 15 month old Copperfield Lament 09 from Mr Rob Shimwell from Kidderminster, Worcestershire.

Res Supreme Champion Copperfield Lamnet web.jpg In the male section the Senior Bull Champion Haven Cavalier from E.L Lewis & Sons, Dilwyn, Herefordshire came out top as the Grand Male Champion. 

The Junior Bull Champion, 11 month old Church Preen Galileo from A.R. Owen, Shropshire, was awarded the Reserve Grand Male Championship. “Galileo” beat off strong competition from the Intermediate Male Champion in the form of Free Town Fortune from R.A. Bradstock & Partners, Tarrington, Herefordshire. R.A. Bradstock also took the Junior Female Championship with Free Town Pansy 3rd.

MJ & M Nash had a marvellous Show taking five trophies including; The Group of Five, Best Pair of Calves one from each Sex and Best Pair of Heifers. They also took the Reserve Senior Male Championship with Whartonspool Donizetti.
