Blonde bulls lead trade at Carlisle spring sales

Blonde bulls peaked at 5,000gns at the Blonde Society spring show and sale, Carlisle last week (27 Feb).

The Hallfield herd took a clean sweep taking three of the top prices.

Star of the sale was the reserve junior champion Hallfield Ironman, from P Weightman and Sons, Peterlee, Co Durham. Sired by the Druk Genesis son Blackwater Ainsley he is out of Hallfield Belle.  Buyer was D and SM Bradley, Brampton, Cumbria.

Second best at 3,500gns was another Hallfield consignment, Hallfield Igor, sired by Ardmore Fugitive and out of a Blackwater Ainsley dam. He was the pick of K Lister, Skipton, N Yorkshire.

Just shy of this at 3,400gns was Hallfield Destin, again sired by Blackwater Ainsley. Buyer was RJ and DA Emms and Son, Cupar, Fife.

The supreme champion Seaview Independent from Gerard Stranney’s, Co Down, Northern Ireland, made 3,000gns when selling to ER Fawcett, Sand Hutton, York. Sired by Ki money Bruce he if out of a homebred dam.

Females peaked at 2,300gns for the heifer Broomley Ivy. Sired by Ark Georgie she is out of a homebred dam and was the pick of WAM Hall, Kirkholm, Stranraer, who also bought the female champion Broomley Judith from the same home for 2,000gns.

Averages: Five bulls, £3,549; three females, £2,135.
