A strong demand for well grown, well fleshed bulls resulted in a new record average being set at last Saturday’s Hereford sale, with the 21 bulls traded levelling at £3430.
Leading the sale was Panmure 1 Goliath from J M Cant and Partners, Arbroath, Angus. This one had stood champion in the pre-sale show and is by Romany 1 Distiller.Selling at 8300gns, Goliath was knocked down to the judge Ian Shaw and his father, Robert, for the Hallwood herd, South Wirral.
The same vendor then took the day’s next best call of 8100gns for another Distiller son, Panmure 1 Gino. Out of a Solpoll 1 Brigadier daughter he sold to Northern Ireland Breeders, R and K Murphy for the Gortnagarn and Sluggan herds, Dungannon, Co Tyrone.Selling at the next best price of 5000gns was Ford Abbey 1 Glenn from Ford Abbet Farm. Sired by Danish bull Moeskaer Salute 994, he is out of a Dendor 1 Unicorn daughter and sold to John and Edward Thornhill, Roden, Shropshire.
A trio then traded at 4000gns, with the first of these being Romany 1 Galaxy from Ron and Robert Wilson, Kelso. Sired by the sire of the year, Baybridge 1 Atlas, he went to M Jenkins, Berkeley, Gloucester.
The next at this money was Weybrook 1 Duke 3 from H A Hatt, Hampshire. This Fisher 1 Charlie son was bought by A Cox, North Scarle, Lincolnshire.
Finally at 4000gns was Fisher 1 Ferrari from W J Hutchings and Sons, Chichester, West Sussex. “Ferrari” a Superior Carcase Sire by Fisher 1 Cracker, was snapped up in a two way split by L Cox, Bolton, and G Hall, Radcliffe, Manchester.
Topping the females on offer was a trio of 3000gns bids for heifer from the Wilson family. First to go at this money was the reserve female champion. This was Romany 1 Jane A51 G27, a Romany 1 Asteroid daughter. She was knocked down to D and J Coulson.
Next at this price was Romany 1 Jane A51 G26, a Romany 1 Asteroid daughter which went to P and E Williams, Shrewsbury. The other at this money was Romany 1 Julia D345 G28 by the Danish Sire, SMH Calgary 345C. She was bought by J E Jones and Son, Chirbury.
Making 2600gns was the champion from the pre-sale show, Free Town Lynette 13 from R A Bradstock and Partners, Tarrington. This in-calf heifer is by Border Benefactor D62 and sold to A Miller, St Austell.
Following that at 2550gns was Bosa 1 Eva 720 a maiden heifer by Bosa 1 Countrywide, from G Blandford, Bosbury. She went home with G H Cattell, Solihull, West Midlands.
