Herefords top at 5000gns at Carlisle

Hereford cattle topped trade at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Friday with a call of 5000gns for the male champion helping set an average of £2569.88 for the 10 males sold.

 

Sale leader was Panmure 1 Elvis from J M Cant and Partners, Arbroath. Sired by Solpoll 1 Brigadier and out of the homebred Plum line, he sold with a milk figure of +2 and terminal sire index of +19 for 5000gns to D and J Coulson Livestock, Middle Rasen, Lincolnshire.

Elvis had previously stood second at the Royal Highland and reserve junior male champion at the Scottish National Show in Perth last year.

 

Second highest call of the day went to John Cameron and Son, Fife, who sold the first prize winner Baldinnie 1 Crosby, a son of Leos Pride 1 Vanquish out of Baldinnie 1 Cindy.

He sold for 3400gns to J H C Strachan, Stonehaven with a terminal sire index of +21.

 

Two bulls from Tom Rennie sold at 2500gns, the first of which Mosston Muir 1 Dino, a son of Bariwse Weelington sold to Grove Farms, Dumfires, while the other Mosston Muir 1 Dazzler, another Wellington son sold to M W shaw, County Durham.

 

Female trade was led by the champion Barwise 1 Calpernica from Wedtmoreland based breed Carolyn Fletcher.

Again, by Barwise 1 Weelington, out of a homebred dam, this March 2007 heifer sold having been AI’d to Romany 1 Captain to G and M C shepherd, Preston.
