Miniature donkey scoops 2,500gns high bid

Here’s a bit of an unusual sale report we have just had sent in to the Taking Stock mailbox. For anyone that is interested in alpacas and donkeys then the below may be of interest.

A collective sale of Alpacas, Mediterranean Miniature Donkeys and Llamas from various breeders came under the hammer at Borderway Mart, Carlisle this week.

Topping the sale at 2,500gns was a miniature donkey from the Evertown dispersal sale consignment shown by David Blackett of Canonbie. This 3 year old 31″ jenny, Evertown Lisa, is a daughter of the skewbald John Mosley and bred from a Marklye Mardsen sired mother. Lisa sold in foal to the herds stallion, Double N It’s a Secret, for 2,500gns and now travels to Morayshire for Smallburn Farms.

One lot earlier clinched the next leading price tag of 2,450gns. Again a 3 year old jenny, Evertown Katie, who measured up to 32″ and was sired by Athelwyn Chief Mowhawk. Katie also sold in foal to Double N It’s a Secret and was purchased by Mr Campbell Fraser of Hawick.

Heading up the Alpaca section was a 2 year old female shown by Lorna Renshaw of the Ardo herd based near Aberdeenshire. Ardo Jet, a solid black huacaya daughter of Teifi Mistral and goes back to Lake House Yorick on her mothers pedigree. Jet sold in cria to Lavender Park Zarathrusta and was knocked down to 1,700gns and join local breeder Barbara Hetherington of the Beck Brow Alpaca Herd based near Ainstable on the outskirts of Carlisle.

The next leading price tag in the Alpaca section was an open female shown by Northumberland breeder Mrs Susan Burnell from Stagshaw Alpaca herd. This homebred solid mid fawn huacaya yearling female is sired by Bozedown La Croix and is bred from a Stagshaw Jess, a daughter to Cleeve Cloud Ivanhoe. Hespera was sold to local enthusiast TK Robinson & Son of Kendal.

Also from the Stagshaw herd was an outfit which sold for 950gns. This was Stagshaw Verbena a daughter of the Chilean bred sire Felipe of Atlantic and is out of the Atlantic bred mother line. Verbena sold with her spring born male cria and was purchased by G Pattinson of Penrith.

Has Princess 2,000gns to C Fraser, Hawick.

Illawalla Penelope 2,000gns to C Fraser, Hawick.

Alpacas:

Stagshaw Yolande and cria Stagshaw Isla 900gns to Little Eskrigg Alpacas, Kendal.

Old Cross Amber and cria Old Cross Avita 800gns to Messrs Milbourn, Carlisle.

Fallowfield Ulysses 800gns to R Hand, Shropshire.

Stagshaw Beatrice 700gns to J Nelson, Carlisle.
