Highoaks Holsteins sell to 4800gns high spot

The second sale to disperse the Highoaks herd of Holsteins at Carlisle last week saw trade peak at 4800gns for an in calf heifer by Braedale Goldwyn from seven successive excellent dams. Highoaks Goldwyn Placida ET was the only embryo produced by the EX91 Journalist dam bought a few years ago by the Wilsons.

Two other animals, both maiden heifers and both by Goldwyn made 4200gns each, with the first being Highoaks Goldwyn Avis, a full sister to the champion 5500gns bull at the Carlisle spring bull show and sale and the second being Highoaks Goldwyn Francisco.

Apart from these impeccably bred heifers a feature of the sale was the relentless quality of very fresh heifers, not all with breeders pedigrees, but all with great quality and potential production.

Averages; 150    cows and heifers in milk and/or in calf ÂŁ2136.82, 13 in-calf heifers    ÂŁ2287,

60 maiden heifers ÂŁ1295.88 (Harrison and Hetherington with Wright Manley).
