Highoaks Holsteins set £2214 average
The first sale to disperse the Highoaks herd of Holsteins for the Wilson family, Penrith, saw the 170 head on offer record a storming average of £2214.76 with the top call only marked at 5300gns, true testament a well bred herd of cattle.
Making the top price of the day was Mayne Prelude Arabella, a daughter of A Ronnybrook Prelude out of Mayne Adam Arabella. This December 2004-born third calver is classified Ex92 and sold having given 5207 litres in 107 days of her third lactation, having given 10,951 litres in her second. Buying this one was R McNeil, Lochans, Stranraer.
Second best was a 4500gns call for Highoaks Goldwyn Riatta, a VG86 classified Braedale Goldwyn daughter. She is an October 2007-born second calved cow out of Astrahoe P ROsa Riatta which sold having calved in early September and having given 858 litres in the first 22 days of her second. She was bought by R G Tompson, Sneaton, Whitby.
Then selling for 4400gns was Highoaks Lauthority Joan 8, a Comestar Lauthority daughter. Born in May 2008 thiss first calved heifer is out of Olddam Joan 9, a Startmore Rudolph daughter. She sold to C Dent, Kirkby Thore, Penrith.
And at 4000gns was Highoaks Corporal Betty 37, a Weeton Corporal daughter out of Highoaks Mr Sam Betty 27. Again a May 2008-born first calved heifer she was sold giving about 29 litres a day and went to G B Corner and Son, Northallerton.
Following that at 3900gns was Highoaks Goldwyn Marqui, a Braedale Goldwyn daughter bred from 13 generations of VG and Ex dams. Out of Baillies Storm Peggy, she calved her third in May this year and was sold having been AI’d to Stantons Steady in August. Buyer here was R G Thompson again.
At 3800gns was Highoaks Bambam Senstation, a May 2007-born Braedale Bambam daughter out of Bricknell Lee Sensation, an Ex90 classifield dam. Classified at VG86 herself, May 2007-born Sensation gave just short of 9000 litres in her heifer lactation and was sold having been AI’d to Gillette Jordan. She went home with A Williamson, Calthwaite, Penrith.
Just below that at 3700gns was Ex91 classified Highoaks Talent Ruby, a July 2005-born Ladino Park Talent daughter out of Bricknell August Ruby 7 an Ex91 dam. Having calved in September she sold to K J and C S Wilson, Thursby, Carlisle.
