Highwhinnow Holstein reduction sale tops 3,000gns

The hammer came down on a top call of 3,000gns at the reduction sale of the milking portion from the J & J Taylor’s Highwhinnow Holstein herd, Thursby, Carlisle.

The sale included a wide range of top quality dairy cattle from freshly calved and in-calf cows and heifers, and spring calvers which can be traced back to the noted Weeton breeding through the use of many top sires.

The sale attracted many local milk producers and breeders, including buyers travelling from Shropshire in the south and Ayrshire in the north.

The top price was achieved by a second calver, Highwhinnow Rocko Ena.  This Stannock Rocko daughter is out of the 9,335kg Haldrey Leadership bred mother.  She sold to Messrs Watson of Highfield, Ayrshire.

In all, the sale saw seven entries be sold for 2,000gns and over.  This included 2,800gns for another Stannock Rocko daughter, the second calved Highwhinnow Rocko Fleur, which gave more than 10,500kg in her first lactation.  She was snapped up by Messrs Watson, Ayrshire.

Meanwhile, selling for 2,650gns was the fresh calved fifth cow, Highwhinnow Royal Ontario.  Sired by Dalebank Patron Royal and out of a Rijen Aerostar bred mother, this high yielding entry was also on the lorry for Ayrshire for Messrs Watson.
