Holstein bulls at Beeston reach 4,900gns
The Western Holstein Club’sFifth Annual Spring Bull Show and Sale saw bulls reach a top price of 4,900gns.
However buyers were few andselective, which resulted in a low clearance rate. In total only 15 of the 36bulls forward on the day found new homes to average ÂŁ1,998.50.
Thestar of the sale once again went to a bull from the noted Woodmarsh Herd of theGould family at Bomere Heath, Shrewsbury. Woodmarsh Lumberjack is a son ofGillette Jordan and out of Woodmarsh Goldwyn Lyme 62nd , a VG86three-year old dam which is the seventh generation of cows classified in thetop two grades from this family. He sold for 4900 gns and sold to T G Philipsand Son of Sarnau, Powys.
TheGoulds took the day’s second best price with Woodmarsh Mercian, a son ofGillette Jordan and bred from the Melody family. He sold for 3,200gns to FJackson and Son of Coed y Coe, Oswestry.
Twobulls made 2,100gns; the first was a Windbrook son, consigned by the Tomlinson’sof Bilsborrow, Preston. Their Bilsrow Iceman sold to Bixley Farms, Norwich.
Thesecond was the very last bull in the sale, the red and white Aintree LinchpinRed; a naturally polled son of Sandy Valley Colt P Red selling to RM Sisson ofHaughton, Stafford.
Theonly other bull to break the 2,000gns barrier was Alderbarrow Zodiac from B andL Whitfield and Son, of Wem, who was a Gillette Jordan son from the Zandrafamily, which sold to T Wigley and Son of Llanymynech, Powys.
Judgefor the day was John Evans of the Maesyrafon Herd, Haverfordwest, West Wales.For his Champion he selected Winton Patrick, a son of Glenn Ann Palermo fromthe Moondale Pat line of Peter Waring, Beverley. The Reserve was awarded to a StycheSpirit son sired by Emmark Mamoth from Seaton Farms of Audlem.
