In calf heifer tops dairy dispersal with 2,450gns bid at Beeston

One of the largest crowds of the season attended Beeston Castle Auction for the dispersal of the entire Gorwood Herd of pedigree Holsteins following the recent sudden death of Peter Ankers, Gorse Farm, Huxley, Nr. Chester.

Unusually for a dispersal such as this it was an In?calf heifer that topped the market.

Sale leader was Gorwood Wisconsin Roberta Red 3rd, a daughter of April?Day Wisconsin Red, carrying a service to Delta Fidelity for December. She sold at 2,450gns to Chris Newsham of Walton?le?Dale, Preston.

Another in?calf heifer by the same sire, Gorwood Wisconsin Bobin Red 2nd, also due in December to Delta Fidelity, sold for 2,250gns to local producer David Stewart of Tiverton.

The milkers were a very fast and level trade with a top bid of 2,100 gns being achieved on three occasions. The first at this figure was the fresh third calver Gorwood Roseman Bobin Red, a daughter of Sterndale Roseman Red which sold to JG Williams, Nantwich. The second was a fresh second calver, Gorwood Banshee Elspeth 2nd, by Moet Banshee, selling to SA Wilson of Dunham Hill, Helsby and the third was Gorwood Aaron Elspeth 2nd, afresh heifer by Dixie?Lee Aaron selling to Barbara Hughes of Malpas. A further seven animals sold between 2,000 and 2,100 gns.

Calves at foot sold to 620gns for a daughter of Scientific Destry and maiden heifers sold to 1,180 gns for a March ’12 daughter of Aalshorst Pleasure.
