In-lamb Texels sell to 7,000gns top at Carlisle
A brace of in-lamb Texel female sales at Carlisle this weekend saw an almost insatiable demand for the best of those on offer, with a top price of 7,000gns realised on the second day.
DAY ONE
Friday evening’s Twilight Texel Sale saw a high of 6,200gns paid by Robin Orr, Halbeath, Dumfermline. Mr Orr’s choice was a gimmer from the Loosebeare flock of the Quick family, Devon.
This gimmer, QEL 1201597, is a Hull House Special Brew daughter out of a dam by the noted Summerwood Grand Union, sire of 120,000gns Loosebeare Imp. She goes back to Kingsland Lion on her dam’s side and sold in-lamb to Mossknowe United. She stood second at Devon County Show this year.
Second best price of the evening sale came at 3,000gns, with this price paid twice for gimmers from the Procters flock, Clitheroe, Lancashire. First at this money for the flock was PFD 1201836, a Sportsmans Scania daughter out of an Annan-bred dam by Ettrick McCoist. She goes back to Castlecairn Irn Bru and sold in-lamb to Tophill Union Jack, this year’s Lanark sale champion. She was knocked down to David Gray, Selkirk.
The other at this price for the Procters flock was another by Scania, PFD 1202026. She is out of another Annan dam, with this one being a Clynnog Joe Tex daughter. Again in-lamb to Union Jack she was bought by Keith Jamieson, breeder of her dam, for the Annan flock.
Following that came a pair of 2,600gns sales, with the first coming from the Llangwm flock of Iolo Prys Jones. This gimmer, JLI 1200508, a Sportsmans Superstar daughter is out of a Kelso Picasso-sired dam and was shown successfully this summer. Selling in-lamb to Knock The One and with an index of 242 she was taken by A Mair, Courance, Lockerbie.
Robert Forsyth’s Baltier flock then took the other 2,600gns call, with a gimmer sired by Ballygroogan Ronaldo. The Baltier pen leader, FEB1200201, is out of a Garngour Neptune daughter and goes back to Watchknowe Jimmy’s Pride. She was bought by D J J Watkins, Gorslas, Llanelli, in-lamb to Springwell Ulsterboy.
A trio then sold at the next best price of 2,500gns, with the first at this price being from the Procters flock, PFD 1201866. This one is another Sportsmans Scania daughter and is an ET-bred full sister to the flock’s first 3000gns gimmer of the sale. Selling in-lamb to Tophill Union Jack she sold to Stephen Cobbold, Sudbury, Suffolk.
Second at this price was another of the Procters pen, PFD 1201914. Again ET bred this one is by Haddo Ringleader and out of another Annan-bred dam by Ettrick McCoist. She sold with an index of 227 and is in-lamb to Scholars Twenty Twelve. She went home with David Corfield and family, Faringdon, Oxfordshire.
The final 2,500gns call came for one from Steve and Helen Smith’s Penparc flock. Their pen leader was SJP 1202157, a daughter of Glenside Seabiscuit out of a dam by Skiddaw Magic and going back to Clougher Irishman. She sold in-lamb to 60,000gns Teiglum Tornado and with an index of 315. This one sold to H Huddlestone and Son, Arkholme, Carnforth.
The Procters flock then sold at 2,200gns, with this money paid for PFD 1201950. Sired by Sportsmans Scania she is out of the Annan dam as the 3,000gns and 2,500gns from earlier in the sale and sold in-lamb to Sportsmans Unimog. She also headed back to Faringdon with David Corfield.

DAY TWO
The second of the weekend’s in-lamb Texel sales at Carlisle, the Christmas Stars Sale on Saturday, saw a top price of 7,000gns paid for a gimmer from the Innes family’s Strathbogie flock.
Taking the day’s best price was IJS 1200089 a Procters Samurai daughter out of a dam by Mossknowe Pudsey and going back to Baltier Imp. This gimmer, in-lamb to 48,000gns sire Strathbogie Untouchable. This one was bought by E Pugh, Llanuwchllyn, Gwynedd.
It was Robert Cockburn’s Knap flock which took the second top of the day, selling at 6,500gns. This one, CKP 1203221 was Robert’s first in the ring and is sired by Baltier Rascal. She is a full sister to the 4000gns Connachan Sharky and 4000gns Connachan Spicebabe and sold in-lamb to Knap Utopia. Buying this one were Keith, Allan and Roy Campbell, Drimsynie, Lochgoilhead.
Following that at 5,000gns was the best of the day from Robbie Wilson’s Milnbank offering. This was LYM 1200701, a Glenside Razzle Dazzle daughter out of a dam by Douganhill Navahoe and in-lamb to the 48,000gns Strathbogie Untouchable. She was bought by Stephen Cobbold, Sudbury, Suffolk.
The Strathbogie flock then took the next three best prices, selling at 4,500gns and 4,000gns twice.
At 4,500gns was IJS 1200089, a Procters Samurai daughter ET bred out of a Strathbogie Nixon daughter and going back to Craighead Hercules. This gimmer again sold in-lamb to Untouchable and was knocked down to Messrs Boden and Davies for the Sportsmans flock, Cheshire.
The first of the two 4,000gns bids for the Strathbogie gimmers came from R and E Owens, Tal-Y-Cafn, Colwyn Bay. This gimmer, IJS 1200053, a Castlecairn SAS Commander daughter ET bred out of a dam by Annan Limmy. Sold in-lamb to Garngour Ultimatum she is a maternal sister to 48,000gns Untouchable.
Second at this level for the Innes family was their very last of the day, an implanted embryo. Sired by Strathbogie Terminator and out of an Annan dam, the resultant progeny will be full siblings to 48,000gns Untouchable. This one sold to Graham Morrison, Banff.
A pair then followed at 3,000gns, with the first being Robert Cockburn’s second in. This was CKP 1203299, an Ettrick Sir Alan daughter out of a Connachan Obama daughter and going back to Clynnog Joe Tex. She sold in lamb to Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold and was taken home by A Mair, Courance, Lockerbie.
Second at this money came from the Sportsmans flock of Messrs Boden and Davies. Their pen leader was BGS 1200539, a Cowal Rob Roy II daughter out of a dam by Baltier Panther. Sold in-lamb to Tullylagan Tonka she was bought by A Hamilton, Lanark.
Then at 2,800gns was another of the Strathbogie pen, IJS 1200145. This Procters Samurai daughter is out of a Strathbogie Nixon daughter and sold in-lamb to Garngour Ultimatum. She was bought by Idris Morris, Caernarfon, Gwynnedd.
And making 2,600gns was the best of the day from Keith Jamieson’s Annan flock, JKA1200262. This Milnbank Sgt Pepper daughter is out of a Garngour Lightning daughter which goes back to Craighead Dynamite and sold in-lamb to Crosskirk Ultimate Warrior. She was bought by Messrs Moffat and Bradley-Farmer, Hampshire.
