Innovative feed robot transforms dairy feed management

Provided by

Established in Sweden in 1911, Sveaverken focuses on IoT products and smart automation solutions for a wide range of fields, including field precision farming, digitalized animal husbandry and automated vertical farming.

RoboPusher Nimbo is a revolutionary feed pusher robot that uses visual navigation technology; it can charge itself, push feed autonomously, and facilitate constant access to fresh and nutritious feed for the cows.

Consequently, it can enhance animal welfare, increase milk production, control feed costs and reduce labour.

Overview of features

  • Visual navigation that identifies obstacles and adjusts routes automatically
  • Real-time remote monitoring via an IoT platform
  • Fast charging system that ensures over 16 hours of feed pushing per day
  • The high-power motor delivers higher drive torque and reliability
  • Easy control and customisation via the web on mobile phone
  • Compact design that requires less room for deployment and installation
  • Easy maintenance with innovative modular design and self-cleaning components

Visual Navigation adjusts routes automatically

1. We use visual navigation in RoboPusher Nimbo

Sveaverken is a pioneer in visual navigation technology for the herd management industry, and it has revolutionised the way push robots work.

Unlike the traditional method that requires a large number of magnetic nails and tracks, RoboPusher Nimbo only needs a few magnetic nails near the charging station and at the end of the feed alley.

During the feed-pushing process, the robot uses camera imaging to navigate the entire feed alley and pushes the feed flexibly according to the amount of feed.

2. What is visual navigation?

Visual navigation is a technique that allows autonomous vehicles, such as robots, cars, or drones, to move in an environment using only camera input.

Visual navigation requires mathematical foundations of geometry and optimisation, as well as state-of-the-art algorithms and software packages.

3. Benefits of camera-based visual navigation

Using camera-based visual navigation, the amount of reconstruction needed for the feed alley can be reduced. Only a few magnets need to be laid around the charging station and the end of the feed alley.

  • The system is capable of adapting the feed routes in response to the fluctuating feed amount, ensuring precise delivery of feed to the cattle.
  • RoboPusher Nimbo can automatically stop in an emergency when it encounters any obstacles, such as people, cattle or other objects, thus preventing accidents.

High-power motors deliver higher drive torque

RoboPusher Nimbo uses new 400 W high-power brushless motors and adopts a newly self developed motor controller.

It has been optimised based on scenarios of small and mediumsised farms to deliver a higher drive torque, making the whole system more reliable.

The compact body requires less space and improves efficiency

RoboPusher Nimbo also has a compact design and a small charging station that requires less space and installation work.

The maximum diameter of its body is only 1080mm, which implies that RoboPusher Nimbo can operate efficiently on your cowshed as long as the width of your feed alley is more than 2.2 metres.

The charging station and the robot can be placed inside the cowshed, which implies that when winter arrives, your cowshed door is not required to switch frequently, reducing the incidence of the herd experiencing cold, facilitating the herd to live in a more comfortable environment, enhancing the herd’s food intake.

Easy remote and control robot on your phone

With Wi-Fi installed on your farm, you can also access the robot’s camera remotely via your mobile phone and monitor the operation of the machine.

RoboPusher Nimbo is equipped with an emergency stop button, and in case of any mishap, you can press the button to halt the machine instantly.
