Irish Texels sell to €6700gns top

Top price at last week’s Irish National Texel sale was a €6700gns call for the pre-sale champion from Ronan Gallagher, Sligo. This son of homebred tup Enniscrone Playboy is out of a Tophill Joe-sired ewe and sold in a three way split to J and C McHugh, Shane McHugh and Messrs McHugh Bros.irish texel champ 2011.jpgThen at €2400gns John Green sold his ram lamb by Tophill Knockout. This one went to Roger Doherty, County Doneagal. 

Making €1800gns was the reserve champion from Arthur and Patrick O’Keeffe with the winner of the LambPlus ram lamb class. This lamb is by Cairness Rags to Riches, a son of the record priced Deveronvale Perfection and is out of a Ballybroone New. This one went to Cork breeders Eddie and Sheena  McCarthy.

Mr Green also sold his second prize shearling ram for €1700. Staying at the same money was a lamb from Arthur and Patrick O’Keeffe this time sired by Cairness Perfection and out of a dam by Ballybroonee New. This one sold to Alex Clarke.

Leading the females was an €1800gns call for the female champion, a shearling ewe by Turoe Pilot from John Greene. She sold to Pat and Barry Farrell.

Selling at €1100gns was the reserve female champion from Padraic Niland. This ewe lamb is sired by Knock Rafiki and out of a daughter of Tullagh Neptune. She sold for to Robert Porter.

Averages; shearling ewes €640, ewe lambs €630, shearling rams €745, ram lambs €695.
