Lamb trade tops at £85 a head at Kington
An entry of 1,259 lambs sold to a solid trade at Kington market this week – above the days national average.
Topping trade at £85 a head was 52kg lambs from TH and V Burton. Next at £82.50 was another pen of 52kg lambs from T Joseph, closely followed by a pen of 49kg lambs from Stud Farm, Powys, which sold to £80 a head.
Overall lambs averaged between 1.73p/kg and 1.80p/kg, with lambs weighing in at 39-45kg achieving the best price a kilo of up to 180p/kg.
The entry of 251 cull sheep sold to a better trade on the week, with numbers easing and trade recovering. The ewes sold to a top of £88.50 for some Texel ewes from EJW and ME Griffith. Overall the ewes averaged £55.40 a head with many hill and thin ewes forward. Meanwhile tups and weathers sold to £65 and averaged £58.
