With winter fast approaching there was a shortage of finished lambs at Bakewell market, Daerbyshire, this week, with a total entry of 2,967 sheep including 1,794 lambs. Quality animals were in demand, regardless of weight.
Topping trade was DJ Saxby, Litton, with 43.6kg lambs which went onto sell for 220p/kg (£95.92 a head). The overall market average levelled at 175.24p/kg.
An entry of 1,150 ewes and rams met a top call £120 for Texels from the Jones family, Alton Manor. Trade was strong for well-meated continentals, with the best ten pens averaging £106.10 each.
