Large lamb consignment pushes price down at Gisburn
A large consignment of lambs resulted in less money at Gisburn Auction Marts breeding and store sale on Saturday (21 March). T and M Johnson and Son, Bolton by Bowland, Clitheroe topped this section at ÂŁ22 for Texel cross lambs.
The sale continued with ewes with twin lambs at foot which sold to a high of ÂŁ235 for smart Texels and ÂŁ225 for Beltex, other breeds in the ÂŁ180 – ÂŁ200 bracket generally. The best with singles came from Neil Caton, Stainforth at ÂŁ200, but mostly about ÂŁ120 – ÂŁ150 for correct outfits and broken mouth ÂŁ100 – ÂŁ120.
There was still plenty of interest for in-lamb ewes. Good Texels from the Lampkin family, Silsden sold at ÂŁ215. A run of 60 four crop Dalesbred ewes due mid-April to a Paul Slater Beltex Texel Ram were keenly bid to ÂŁ80 (ave. ÂŁ74). Forty two Beltex x Hoggs due 1 April sold to ÂŁ132 (ave. ÂŁ122).
